Build confidence and capability
Meet Illyana
I created Found Future to guide young people through adulthood. When I lived on my own for the first time I became overwhelmed with the lack of skills and knowledge I had when it came to upkeeping a house and managing a job - and I wasn’t alone. So many bright young people have to bring themselves up in terms of learning household skills like cooking, cleaning or finances because schools aren’t teaching them and parents don’t have the time. When I left home I believed I was capable of taking the step to adulthood, but I was quickly humbled when I realised I couldn’t even put together an effective and realistic food shop or keep my house clean despite being taught this at a young age, and because I hadn’t actually put those skills to practice I quickly forgot them.
When I decided to start Found Future, I was surrounded by young individuals that were struggling both financially and mentally, the majority lacked any knowledge of basic household duties - myself included at the time. It showed me the real problem with education. Of course, it’s important to be taught maths and english and science but why weren’t schools teaching us shopping, budgeting, cleaning or how to move away from home for the first time? These skills are just as vital as the current academic curriculum yet the majority of people are forced to figure them out on their own.
My goal was to give people a platform where they can learn these important skills at an affordable price. Most courses, especially online, have such a high asking price that those struggling aren’t able to afford them and therefore can’t help themselves. My goal wasn’t to start a business to gain money, it was to guide people through the things I struggled with and to hopefully save them the costly mistakes I made along the way. Throughout this business I have focused not only on affordability but also on accessibility. As a neurodiverse person I often struggle to understand simple tasks and maintain them. I have tailored each course with the aim to make everything understandable for everyone. This included making written walkthroughs, visual and auditory walkthroughs and various templates to help you keep track of what you need and when you need to do these things. I explain steps in detail and cover mistakes you might make and why, as well as linking products you may need with a rough calculation of costs. I also welcome any contact from you about subjects - whether that’s something you don’t quite understand, an area you want more detail on or a request for a subject I haven’t covered that you believe other people may also struggle with. I want this platform to be a hub for all of the information you might need when growing into adulthood.
